The job check is per role — and it's where hires stall.

Your accreditation doesn't approve any individual job. Each role you want to fill with a migrant needs its own job check — proving the pay is right, the role was genuinely advertised, and no New Zealander was available. Get it right and the visa stage is straightforward. Get it wrong and you're back to the start, weeks later.

What a role must satisfy

A job check stands or falls on a handful of requirements. These are where applications are most often delayed — and where careful preparation makes the difference.

Pay at the market rate

The role must pay at least the market rate for that work in New Zealand — what a New Zealander doing the same job in the same region would earn. Evidencing this correctly is often the difference between approval and a query.

Most roles must be genuinely advertised in New Zealand first — at the right duration and reach — to show no suitable New Zealander was available. How the advertising is run and documented is closely scrutinised.

What's the difference between accreditation and a job check? +
Accreditation approves your business as an employer; the job check approves a specific role. You need accreditation first, then a separate job check for each position you want to fill with a migrant worker. They're consecutive links in the AEWV chain.
Do we need a job check for every role? +
Yes. Each role you fill under the AEWV needs its own approved job check — covering pay, advertising and, for many roles, Work and Income engagement. One accreditation can support many job checks over its life.
Do we have to advertise the role first? +
For most roles, yes. You generally must advertise in New Zealand at the right reach and duration to show no suitable New Zealander was available, before hiring a migrant. Some higher-paid or specified roles are treated differently — we confirm what applies to yours.
What is the market rate, and why does it matter? +
The role must pay at least what a New Zealander would earn doing the same job in the same region. Evidencing the market rate correctly is the most common point of difficulty in a job check, so it's worth getting right before you lodge.
What happens after the job check is approved? +
Once approved, your chosen worker can apply for their Accredited Employer Work Visa, with the approved job check supporting their application. We can manage that final link too, so the hire completes without a gap.
